Editing is 75% of a writer's career
I've written a huge amount but now when i go back and read essays I wrote 3-5 years ago it looks completely different and needs editing. As I grow to be a stronger writer my older stuff looks weaker. It's a good metaphor for life. As I get older and better and happier I look back at my life and wince at the memories of some of my clueless follies. Geez, deep thoughts for the wee hours of morning.

I do the same thing, Dorri. I look back on things I wrote years ago that I thought were incredibly smart and realize how very wrong I was in thinking that. I love to revise my writing -- it's often my favorite part of the process. And I love to see how I've improved over the years. But I'm always wondering, will there ever be a point in time where I look back on my writing and think it's good? Or will older stuff always seem weaker? I'm hoping I'm coming upon a time in my life where my writing is stabilizing.
Writing is Hell
I think Dickens said something to that effect.
We all grow and er...mature and our writing does too. If you have something to share, then do so. If, on reflection, you could have said it better, write an update.
Have fun and do what you love
